Etiquette in Burkina Faso

Burkina Faso is located in West Africa and has a population of over 17.3 million people.

The nation is a semi-presidential republic.

The official languages of Burkina Faso are French and regional languages Mòoré, Mandinka and Bambara.

About 60% of residents practice Islam, a quarter practice Christianity, and the remainder follow indigenous beliefs.

The currency of Burkina Faso is the West African CFA franc.

When invited into the home, you can bring flowers or chocolate as gifts for the host or hostess. Be sure to give the gift with both hands, and follow the same custom when receiving gifts. However, gift-giving isn’t expected in business.

It’s a good idea to dress formally. Men frequently wear slacks and a button down shirt, or a loose-fitting top and pants in African print. Women will wear a traditional outfit or a top and skirt, usually not wearing pants.

Short skirts and low-cut dresses are not viewed favorably.
