If you are entering a temple or religious site, you should remove your shoes, hat, or head covering. However, your upper arms and legs should both remain fully covered.

Nude sunbathing is frowned upon.

Remove your shoes before entering a home. Don’t point the bottoms of your feet towards people or sacred images.

If giving an object to a monk, women are encouraged to place them on the monk’s receiving cloth or within reach of them. Monks are not permitted to touch women.

Use both hands when you are giving a gift.

Don’t use white wrapping paper and don’t give knives.

Birthdays are not celebrated.
