Etiquette in Costa Rica

Costa Rica, meaning “rich coast”, is a nation of 4.5 million people in Central America.

The official and primary language spoken is Spanish, however many there are many native languages still spoken. About 10% of the adult population speaks English.

Costa Rica is a unitary presidential constitutional republic, led by a President and 2 Vice Presidents.

Roman Catholicism is the official religion and Christianity is predominant. Religious freedom is constitutionally guaranteed and there are growing Buddhism, Hindu, Jewish, Baha’i, and Muslim populations.

The currency is the Costa Rican colón.
