The official and primary language spoken is Spanish, however many there are many native languages still spoken. About 10% of the adult population speaks English.

Roman Catholicism is the official religion and Christianity is predominant. Religious freedom is constitutionally guaranteed and there are growing Buddhism, Hindu, Jewish, Baha’i, and Muslim populations.
The currency is the Costa Rican colón.
