Greetings Etiquette
Normal greetings are with warm handshakes with direct eye contact. However, Slovakians are somewhat restrained in their friendliness.
It’s best to use honorifics and surnames until encouraged to use the first name.
Gift Giving Etiquette
If you receive a gift, open it as soon as it is recieved. Waiting to open the gift is a sign of rudeness.
Don’t offer calla lillies or chyrsanthemums as gifts. If you do gift flowers, they shouldn’t be wrapped in a purple ribbon. All of these are specifically for funerals.
Offer these flowers in odd numbers other than thirteen.
Our large, non-profit educational group for marketing executives looked for someone knowledgeable on the topic of business etiquette and one name kept rising to the top, Cynthia Lett. Her talk was amazing. Since we were limited by time, she focused on the critical aspects of business interactions. Cynthia is a tremendous resource for any company or organization looking for a protocol course.
